As you saw on RapIreland.com yesterday, Tupac Shakur made a surprise appearance at the Coachella festival over the weekend, with an astoundingly realistic hologram of the rapper performing alongside both Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre. If we as fans found it haunting and somewhat eyrie, imagine what it must have been like for Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur. However, it would appear from Shakur’s reps that she was both happy and excited by the performance.
While Afeni was not in attendance at the show, she was very much in on the performance and watched it unfold online. Dr Dre had made the initial approach to Afeni, asking permission to use the hologram in exchange for a sizable donation to the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.
Although Afeni wasn’t at the show, she watched the surprise unfold live on the Internet and was apparently in on the secret. Dre reportedly called and asked for her permission to do the hologram in exchange for a generous donation to the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.
In an odd turn of events, it has been revealed that Nate Dogg was initially in line to appear as the hologram at the event, though this was changed at the last minute.
