Drake says “No Nicki Minaj” at Concerts in Ireland

Superstar rapper and singer Drake has denied that Nicki Minaj or any of his Young Money labelmates will be travelling with him to Ireland for his appearance this July, despite growing speculation that the female rapper may join the summer festival’s star-studded line-up.

Speaking below, Drake claims that the Young Money artists have other projects going on, time-contraints, and that above all he would feel uncomfortable asking a “superstar” like Nicki Minaj to open his stand-alone shows.

Despite being somewhat overshadowed by the likes of Eminem, Jay-Z and Black Eyed Peas on this summer’s festival circuit, it seems a stong and vocal fanbase are arriving on July 9th to Ireland’s Oxegen Festival to see Young Money star Drake, who has shot to fame in the last 12 months.

After recent concert problems, arising from what Drake describes as “false promoters and booking agents illegally using my name for concert and club appearances”, the latest star from the Lil Wayne stable is eventually touching down on Irish soil in July, albeit without Lil Wayne (currently serving a 12 month jail sentence) or any other Young Money artists. With rumours of Nicki Minaj making an appearance, Drake was quick to dispel them:

“A lot of the Young Money artists are doing their own thing, I know Nicki is recording her album. Gudda is on a run right now. It was never brought to me that anybody had the time permitting to be on this tour.”

While at his Irish concert Drake will be accompanied by an array of international star performers, the Toronto based artist felt apprehensive about having other rappers on his smaller concert shows.

“I didn’t want to stick anybody in my opening slot,” he stated “Nicki Minaj is a superstar, I just don’t feel comfortable being like, ‘You wanna come open for me?’. Unless we split the tour and had equal time. It’s a weird thing. But I love ’em all. They’re all doing great things.”

Drake performs at the Oxegen Festival on July 9th. Concert and Camping tickets are onsale now.
