From time to time amazing competitions come our way, and if you happen to be an aspiring rapper, this one is quite possibly the best yet. Rap Superstar Lupe Fiasco has announced a competition to search for Ireland’s Next Best Hip-Hop talent… and he will record a track with them! With the support of Dublin’s SPIN 103.8, the potential for a hit record is massive!
Speaking directly to Irish artists, Lupe says ‘To all of the Irish rappers that are listening to this, Lupe Fiasco supports you as a fellow MC and a fellow rapper struggling and hustling in this game of music to get your voice out there and express yourself… Lupe Fiasco is going to dedicate a verse to one serious rapper, with a serious song that we can all agree on that we like and there you go.’
The search kicks off this Monday (March 7th) and the wannabe ‘Superstars’ have two weeks to send in a copy of one of their tracks (closing date is 18th March). SPIN 1038’s Ryan and Tracy will announce the three finalists on the 28th March, but it will be Lupe who will have the final say on ultimately who is crowned the winner. Lupe warns:
‘… you know I don’t like to talk about the gangster gangster stuff and booty shaking and stuff like that, if you bring a nice record … we’ll pick the best one and I’ll do a verse on it and we’ll play it on the radio’.
The song has to be playable on the radio and remember Lupe is not your stereotypical rapper.

I’m sure that once you send it in to that email address during the time period allocated(March 7th – 18th), they will get it.
I imagine they are just overrun with applicants at the moment, so probably aren’t replying to each one individually. I’m sure once they have all the entries in they will start working through them quickly enough and selecting the best ones.
Hey, just wondering if the beat has to be your own or if you can do the verse/verses to a known beat, like a remix?
Also, how well does the sound quality have to be? Will only well recorded songs be taken seriously?

The entries will be judged on the quality of the rapping rather than the beat.
That said, your entry will be up against a lot of other entries so every effort should be made to ensure your track stands out.
