Rye Rye

Rihanna, Ciara, Drake, and Nicki Minaj; the new generation of Urban music is officially here and already making a significant mark on the current music scene. Let’s have a look at the newest rap artist to join the scene- 20 year old Ryeisha Berrain, simply known as ‘Rye Rye’, from Baltimore, Maryland.

Rye Rye is the protégé of M.I.A. and the first artist to be signed to M.I.A.’s record label N.E.E.T. Recordings. Rye Rye first experienced success when her song Shake It To The Ground, in collaboration with Blaqstarr became a club hit in 2006. Blaqstarr, who’s famous for his collaborations with M.I.A., played M.I.A. the track and a meeting between the two was organised.

Rye Rye began work on her debut album Go! Pop! Bang! which was originally to be released in 2009 but was constantly pushed back. It’s expected that the album will be released June 14, 2011 and that this will be the final push back. Despite the delays, two singles from the album have already been released. Bang and Sunshine, both featuring M.I.A.

Not only is Rye Rye an accomplished singer / songwriter, but she’s also a very talented dancer on par with Ciara, whom Rye Rye has expressed an interested in collaborating with. Rye Rye is certainly one artist who’s going to be around for a while, but how do you think she’ll fit in with the new generation?
