Snoop to Portray Blues Legend Fillmore Slim in Biopic

Deadline.com has announced that rapper Snoop Dogg will star in the upcoming film, The Legend of Fillmore Slim, a biopic about the blues singer and guitarist. Slim was also a well-known pimp; something Snoop has practiced so much over the years. The Doggfather will portray the artist also known as “The West Coast Godfather of the Game” and “The Pope of Pimping.”

The movie will be executively produced by Shelly Liebowitz, and Alan Ames will write the screenplay with Wayne Anderson. Production on the film is reported to begin in 2012.

“This film will span decades,” said screenwriter Alan Ames, “From Slim’s emergence as a musician, to his fascination with the fast life, through his years of incarceration and his redemption.”

Fillmore Slim made a name for himself on the streets of San Francisco, beginning in the late ’50’s. Slim has released several albums, most recently 2010’s The Blues Playa’s Ball, and is still touring at the age of 76.

Check out the interview Filmore Slim gave Walrus TV back in 2009, were he recounts his role in pimpin’, run-ins with the law, and what lead him back to his original love, the blues. We reckon Snoop was born to play Slim, Preach!
