“The Original Rudeboys” Blazing a Trail for Irish Rap

It has been a great year for Irish Hip-Hop to date, from Maverick Sabre breaking down boundaries in the UK to Nucentz recording with Lupe Fiasco. The level of new talent emerging is phenomenal, with last week’s qualifiers for the Waterford Music Fest a testament to that. Set against the overall positive momentum for Irish rap is the amazing story of The Original Rudeboys, who have been quietly building a huge fanbase, not only in the Hip-Hop world, but right across the musical spectrum.

The Original Rudeboys – Stars in my Eyes

With tickets for the Academy dates this weekend already like gold dust, the rise of The Original Rudeboys through YouTube is to be marvelled. Mixing the abstract elements of Acoustic, Rap and Ukulele, it would appear that this trio from Dublin’s inner city have hit on a niche with profound results. Those moving within Irish Hip-Hop circles will no doubt be familiar with front man Neddy Arkins, who has been making Hip-Hop in Dublin for a number of years and built a formidable reputation within the scene.

As is always the case with these things, words don’t do justice to the music. We will let it speak for itself. Here is a selection of videos, from a group with amazingly only formed less than 6 months ago.
