UPDATE: Wyclef’s presidential dreams were dealt a fresh blow after it was revealed that due to certain technicalities (ie not living in Haiti!) Jean may be ineligible to become Haitian president.
Wyclef says that he has not given up hope yet. The announcement may postpone to this weekend.
Although yesterday Wyclef Jean told the Associated Press that he had a positive meeting with the current President of Haiti, authorities in the Caribbean country made a decision to deny his run for President.
The former Fugee’s rapper is known for his relief efforts in the region following the recent disaster, though questions have been raised around his political experience in what is one of the most volatile countries in the world.
Wyclef was not included on the list that was released today, which contains the candidates that meet the legal requirements to run in the November election. According to a council official who spoke with Reuters Jean’s candidacy did not meet several legal requirements.
