Young Jeezy & DJ Drama Speak On Reuniting For ‘The Real Is Back’ Mixtape

Young Jeezy dropped his latest mixtape The Real Is Back on Saturday May 28th last. This is the first time DJ Drama and the Snowman have worked together in over five years. Having laid to rest their beef back in December 2009, it was inevitable that the two go in, and make that trap magic reminiscent of Jeezy’s early career.

Speaking to MTV’s Mixtape Daily, Drama said of the tape ;

“Jeezy and Drama together, that’s a clear win-win, man. N—as gonna stop actin’ like we ain’t built this. You like our style, you watch our style, we still own our style.”

This mixtape goes back to the raw street sound that the two are credited for introducing to the game back in the early 2000s with the classics, Streetz Iz Watchin and Trap Or Die mixtapes. It was these releases that gave way to a whole new hard edged ‘Trap Music’ style for the South that has continued to this day.

On how this mixtape came to be, Jeezy explained ;

“Me and Drama had a couple of conversations. When I came through the station, we chopped it up. We was talkin’ about doin’ another tape because we had so much history. It just was time, the streets needed it. So I had to get in the studio, had to do my whole one, two thing. As usual, he was on point.”

The Atlanta natives made no apologies nor did they try cover the fact that this may not be a crowd pleaser among their commercial fans, but nevertheless the music was something they felt had to be done. The C.T.E. general had his say ;

“We invented the wheel when it comes to that type of music, and that type of tape, so we just did what we did, I felt like I wanted to take it back to what I do. Young Jeezy, nothing else. I’m not trying to sell this to nobody, I’m trying to do what I did in the beginning: Go Hard.”

Young Jeezy is due to release his next studio album, the long awaited TM103 this Summer. The ATL rapper had tweeted July 26th for it’s release, but Def Jam have since denied that date.
